Our ‪‎Patient Care‬ Students in Nursing participated in the 2015 Men in Nursing Conference: “Strong Minds, Healing Hands, and Compassionate Hearts” in November. Special thanks to John Cordova from the CA Health Workforce Initiative for creating this amazing experience for the 10 ‪Ventura County‬ students that included an opportunity to teach stethoscopes! We also appreciate VCOE Career Education Center teacher chaperone Tony Luboff for escorting our students to the conference.

Foothill Tech UBS 6

Sergio Coppa and his team at United Blood Services California hosted and educated our ‪Medical Technology‬ students from Foothill Technology High School in November 2015. Many of these students are in the Bioscience Academy.

Ventura College hosted students from Nordhoff High School and VCOE Career Education Center to participate in Paramedic and EMT experiential learning scenarios. The scenarios were led by ‪Ventura County‬ students and professors in the programs. High school students were exposed to a hands-on experience of a dispatch scenario using real professional equipment and medical mannequins.

The Entrée to Employment Dinner in March 2016 featured professionals, faculty and students in the Health Science and Medical Technology fields at California Lutheran University. We had a full house, with representatives from throughout ‪Ventura County‬, including AMR Ventura County and Gold Coast Ambulance.

Master the Disaster Pic 2

Students from Rancho Campana, Foothill Technology, Nordhoff and Pacifica High Schools attended the “Master the Disaster” Training Symposium put on by the Ventura County Health Care Agency Emergency Medical Services in February at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.
The training gave medical and health providers operational knowledge of disaster preparedness and response as well as the opportunity to learn how to better anticipate a disaster through models of preparedness, response, and mitigation.

SVHS at Sports Medicine Seminar 2

Santa Paula, Simi Valley and Rancho Campana High Schools attended the High School Sports Medicine Seminar at the Microsoft Center in Los Angeles. Local physicians and experts presented topics in sports-related injuries and treatment, and students had the opportunity to participate in lab scenarios.

Simi Valley High School 9th grade ‪Bio Science‬ students visited TMJ Concepts, a small medical device company in Ventura. Owner and operator Dave Samson and staff welcomed students to experience the unique and special work they do in the ‪‎healthcare‬ industry.

CDA Cares 3

VCOE – Career Education /ROP Dental Assisting students volunteered and demonstrated their dental skills at the CDA CARES Ventura weekend clinic, which provided the community with free quality dental care. Without these volunteers donating their time, they would not have been able to see over 1,000 patients over two days.

Linda Ramos and her Emergency Medical Response students from the VCOE Career and Education Center visited with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue Air Unit.
